Ric Flair Offered SmackDown! GM Role

Ric Flair had been offered the job of SmackDown General Manager before the WWE gave it to Teddy Long. Flair is already quite comfortable financially doing his own thing and the speculated $250,000 per year offer from the WWE to come back as a full-time regular as the SmackDown GM fell a little short of the mark.

Flair has also been a little resistant in returning to the WWE in any large capacity as he is reportedly intent on preserving his legacy as a wrestler and has been vocal on respecting the underlying "predicate" of his WrestleMania 24 clash with Shawn Michaels and in retaining the specialness of that moment.

WWE creative had also thrown Dusty Rhodes' name into the mix for the role of SmackDown GM, but Dusty also declined the offer because he didn't like the all the traveling involved at his age and size.
